The CARMEX 16ER1.5ISOP25C is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external ISO threading operations. It carries a P25C manufacturer grade (material grade C5) and features a PVD-applied TiN coating for extended wear resistance. The insert produces a 60-degree included angle at a 1.5 mm pitch, making it suited for standard ISO metric thread profiles. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle (0.3750 inches) and a thickness of 0.1460 inches, it fits standard ER-style laydown toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in turning centers for high-volume or precision external threading applications.
This insert is configured for right-hand external threading and is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. That range includes carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and similar materials. It is appropriate for both production CNC turning environments and manual lathe threading where laydown-style tooling is used. The 16 ER insert style is a widely used indexable format in threading toolholder systems.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 16 ER style laydown threading insert seats in standard ER-format external threading toolholders. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the toolholder manufacturer's insert specification sheet.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as carbide fracture during operation is a safety hazard.
