The CARMEX 16ER1.5ISOBXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It cuts a standard 60-degree included angle thread profile at a 1.5 mm pitch, covering a wide range of ISO metric thread applications. The insert features a PVD-applied TiN coating under the BXC manufacturer grade designation, which improves wear resistance and extends tool life across diverse workpiece materials. With a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1460 inches, it seats precisely in compatible ER-style laydown toolholders. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for right-hand external threading on a broad range of materials. The universal primary workpiece material rating covers carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is well-matched to production and job-shop turning environments where consistent thread form accuracy and insert interchangeability are priorities. The 16 ER insert style fits standard ER-designated laydown threading toolholders designed for that insert size code.
Designed for use in ER-style laydown threading toolholders that accept the 16 ER insert size. Compatible with CNC turning centers and manual lathes configured for external ISO threading with right-hand tool rotation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully stopped and spindle power locked out. Use the torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify thread pitch and insert orientation against the programmed toolpath before resuming cutting operations.
