The CARMEX 16ER/IL0.067BXC is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO standards, this Series 16 insert features a TiN coating applied via PVD process and a BXC manufacturer grade, making it well suited for cutting cast iron and steel workpieces. The insert delivers a 0.067 inch cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 0.079 inches. A positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a corner radius of 0.004 inches support clean, controlled chip formation in production turning environments. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct toolholder-mounted cutting element.
This insert is rated for use on primary workpiece materials including cast iron and steel, corresponding to ISO material grades K and P respectively. It is configured for both left-hand and right-hand operation, offering flexibility across a range of grooving setups. The Series 16 designation and 3/8 inch inscribed circle size place it in a standard insert family commonly found in production machining shops running moderate to high-volume turning operations. It is not designed as a full-radius insert and is not intended for multi-use tooling configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production insert for Series 16 grooving toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.157 inch hole diameter, as specified by ISO grooving insert standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and all axes at a safe position before insert changeout. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for Series 16 inserts. Verify insert orientation for left-hand or right-hand operation before resuming cutting.
