The CARMEX 11IR16UN-BMA is a laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading operations requiring a 60-degree included angle. Built from solid carbide with a PVD coating, it delivers consistent thread form and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the UN thread standard at 16 threads per inch, making it well-suited for common unified inch thread profiles. Right-hand orientation is standard, and the 1/4-inch (0.2500 inch) inscribed circle confirms the 11-style insert geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators will find this insert straightforward to index and replace.
This insert is intended for internal threading applications, including through-holes and blind bores on lathes equipped with appropriate toolholders accepting the IR-style insert. The universal primary workpiece material rating covers carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temp alloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for both production turning environments and job-shop use where multiple material types are encountered on the same machine.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 11IR laydown insert style. Compatible with internal threading applications requiring the UN thread standard at 16 TPI. Confirm toolholder seat and clamping style match the 11IR insert size code before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe tooling and insert indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or indexing any insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamp are clean and free of debris to achieve proper seating and accurate thread form. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or improper seating.
