The CARMEX 1/4EXRHA60P25C is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external right-hand thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a 60-degree included angle and covers a thread range of 48 to 16 TPI, with a metric pitch equivalent of 0.50 to 1.50 mm. The insert is manufactured to the 11 ER style geometry with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.127 inches. A PVD-applied TiN coating improves surface hardness and edge wear resistance, extending tool life in moderate-to-heavy threading operations. This is a partial profile insert, meaning it cuts thread form without controlling thread pitch diameter to a single fixed pitch, giving it versatile range across the stated TPI span. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers select this grade for general-purpose external threading.
The 1/4EXRHA60P25C suits a broad range of workpiece materials classified under universal application codes, including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. Its P25C carbide grade and TiN PVD coating position it as a mid-to-heavy duty threading insert appropriate for production environments where a single insert style must handle varied stock. Typical applications include threading hydraulic fittings, fasteners, couplings, and threaded shaft ends on multi-axis CNC lathes or dedicated threading machines.
Designed for use in 11 ER series threading toolholders and boring bars that accept laydown-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle. Compatible across workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Verify the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before mounting. Torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification only - do not overtighten solid carbide inserts, as they are brittle and susceptible to fracture under uneven clamping load.
