The CARMEX 08ILA55BXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for left-hand internal thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating and cuts a partial profile 55-degree thread form across a range of 48 to 16 threads per inch, covering metric pitch equivalents of 0.50 to 1.50 mm. The inscribed circle measures 3/16 inches and the insert thickness is 0.087 inches. Rated for stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, this insert is selected by machinists and tool and die professionals when close-tolerance internal threading is required on demanding materials.
This insert is suited for internal threading operations in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The IL-style laydown seating geometry keeps the insert low-profile in the holder, which is especially useful when clearing chip flow in blind or deep internal bores. The 55-degree included angle makes it compatible with Unified (UN/UNF) and Whitworth thread standards, and the partial profile design allows a single insert to cut multiple thread pitches within its TPI range without a separate insert change.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 08 IL series laydown threading insert style. Verify holder bore diameter, clamping geometry, and insert seat dimensions against the 08 IL A55 iso code before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid fracturing the carbide substrate - do not overtighten by feel. Inspect the insert seat and chip groove for debris before installation, and confirm insert orientation matches the left-hand thread direction of the programmed toolpath before running the first part.
