The CARMEX 06IRA55BXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 20 TPI (0.50 to 1.25 mm pitch) using a partial profile 55-degree included angle, making it suitable for Unified and Whitworth-form thread families. The insert features a PVD-applied TiN coating for extended cutting edge life and thermal resistance. With a 5/32-inch (0.1563-inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.073 inches, this is a compact insert intended for small-bore internal threading work. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard on this configuration.
This insert is used in production and job-shop environments where small-diameter internal threads must be cut consistently across a range of pitches without changing tooling. The universal workpiece material rating covers carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. Typical applications include threading bores in hydraulic fittings, fluid system components, and precision machined parts. Machinists and CNC operators running thread-turning cycles will find this insert compatible with standard 06 IR laydown boring bar holders.
Designed for use with 06 IR-style laydown threading boring bar holders. The insert style code 06IR and the MSC/Manufacturer reference 06 IR/L A55 confirm fitment to standard 06 IR laydown toolholders accepting a 5/32-inch inscribed circle insert.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a de-energized, locked-out state before any insert change. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to seat the insert fully against the pocket without rocking. Verify insert orientation and confirm right-hand cutting direction matches the programmed thread cycle before resuming spindle operation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert.
