The BSC PREFERRED T9652228 is a self-adhesive insulation pad engineered to seal, pad, and insulate bus bar and splice connections in electrical distribution systems. The pad is constructed with an Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) backing coated with a temperature-stable mastic adhesive that bonds firmly to irregular surfaces. It is rated for bus bars up to 35,000 volts and wire connections up to 1,000 volts, with a maximum operating temperature of 194 degrees F. The material resists moisture ingress and UV degradation, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor electrical enclosures. Electricians and utility technicians are the primary installers of this product.
This insulation pad is used in medium- and low-voltage electrical applications where bus bar connections, splice joints, or conductor terminations require mechanical protection and environmental sealing. Typical installations include switchgear, panelboards, transformer connections, and overhead distribution splice points. It is appropriate for both residential service equipment and commercial or industrial electrical infrastructure. Each case contains 12 pads, making it practical for job-site stocking where multiple connections require treatment in a single work session.
Designed as an OEM-style equivalent replacement for part number S-16009. Suitable for bus bar and splice insulation applications where EPR mastic pads meeting the stated voltage and temperature ratings are required.
Installation is typically performed by licensed electricians working on de-energized equipment in compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC) lockout/tagout requirements. Verify the bus bar or splice is clean, dry, and free of contamination before applying the pad to ensure proper adhesion of the mastic layer. Do not energize the connection until the pad is fully seated and any specified curing time for the adhesive has elapsed. Follow applicable local electrical codes and manufacturer guidelines for insulation creepage and clearance distances.
