The BSC PREFERRED 740678 is a coarse-thread drywall screw supplied in a 1-pound box. It features a No. 2 Phillips recess bugle head with a sharp point designed to drive without pre-drilling. The screw is constructed of hardened steel, produced by heat-treating carbon steel through quenching and reheating. This process increases resistance to wear, corrosion, and abrasion. A phosphate finish provides additional surface protection. Intended for interior applications, this fastener is a standard choice for trade professionals in residential and light-commercial construction and finish work.
This screw is suited for attaching drywall panels, plywood, and softwood lumber. The coarse thread provides strong pull-through resistance in wood substrates and gypsum board. The bugle head profile countersinks smoothly into drywall face paper without tearing, maintaining a flat surface for finishing. Carpenters, drywall installers, and general contractors commonly use this screw for wall and ceiling panel installation on wood-framed assemblies.
Designed for interior drywall and wood fastening applications where a coarse-thread bugle-head screw is specified.
Drive with a No. 2 Phillips bit using a variable-speed screw gun or drill set to a depth-limiting clutch to avoid overdriving. Keep the driver aligned with the screw axis to prevent cam-out and head damage. These screws are rated for interior use only and should not be used in exterior or continuously wet environments. Follow applicable building codes for fastener spacing and penetration depth when installing gypsum board assemblies.
