The BRUSH RESEARCH MFG. BC7M170200CD is a flexible cylinder hone designed for precision bore finishing in small-diameter applications. It uses diamond abrasive at an extra fine grade with a grit of 170, making it well suited for achieving tight surface finishes in hard materials. The hone has a maximum bore diameter of 0.276 inches (7.00 mm), an abrasive length of 2 inches, and an overall length of 8 inches. A shank diameter of 0.125 inches allows it to chuck into standard rotary tools and drill presses. It is used by machinists and maintenance technicians who need consistent, controlled bore refinishing without rigid tooling.
This hone is rated for use on carbide, ceramic, and hardened tool steel - materials that standard abrasives struggle to cut cleanly. It is a common choice for precision bore work on hydraulic components, fuel injector bores, valve guides, and small-diameter pneumatic cylinders. The flexible abrasive filament construction allows the hone to self-center in the bore, making it practical for both new finishing work and restoring worn or slightly out-of-round bores. Maximum operating speed is 1200 RPM.
Designed for use in bores up to 0.276 inches in diameter on carbide, ceramic, and hardened tool steel workpieces.
This hone is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, hand drill, or rotary tool. Chuck the shank securely and confirm the setup does not exceed 1200 RPM before starting. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or honing oil to the bore and abrasive during use to prevent heat buildup and extend abrasive life. Do not force the hone into an undersized bore.
