The BRUSH RESEARCH MFG. BC5812 is a flexible cylinder hone designed for finishing and surface conditioning of small-bore cylinders. It uses silicon carbide abrasive balls mounted on flexible steel stems to conform to the bore geometry, producing a consistent crosshatch finish without removing excessive material. Rated for a maximum of 1000 RPM, this hone is suited for machinists, engine rebuilders, and toolroom technicians working on tight-tolerance bore applications. The fine 120 grit designation makes it appropriate for final finishing passes rather than aggressive material removal. The overall length of 8 inches accommodates most standard drill press or portable drill setups.
This hone is intended for use on mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron bores up to 0.625 inches in diameter. The 2.5-inch abrasive length provides sufficient contact area for short cylinders and valve bores. A shank diameter of 0.19 inches fits standard drill chucks used in bench drill presses and hand drills. Typical applications include hydraulic valve bores, small engine cylinders, pneumatic component bores, and similar precision finishing work performed in machine shops and field maintenance environments.
Designed for use on mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron bores with a maximum bore diameter of 0.625 inches. Fits drill chucks accepting a 0.19-inch shank.
This tool is installed in a drill press or portable drill chuck and run at or below the rated 1000 RPM maximum. Secure the workpiece before operation and use an appropriate cutting fluid or honing oil to extend abrasive life and improve surface finish. Inspect the flexible stems before each use for damage or worn abrasive balls. Always wear eye protection when operating rotary abrasive tools.
