The BRUSH RESEARCH MFG. BC218240AO is a flexible cylinder hone designed for bore finishing and surface conditioning in cylindrical workpieces. It uses aluminum oxide abrasive balls mounted on flexible steel stems to conform to the bore and produce a controlled crosshatch finish. Rated at a medium grade with 240 grit, it runs at a maximum of 900 RPM and covers bore diameters up to 2.125 inches. The overall length is 8 inches, with an abrasive length of 3 inches and a shank diameter of 0.245 inches for use in standard drill chucks or portable drills. Machinists, engine rebuilders, and maintenance technicians install this tool during cylinder reconditioning and bore prep work.
This hone is suited for use on aluminum, brass, bronze, and softer metals, making it appropriate for engine cylinders, hydraulic sleeves, pump bores, and similar small-diameter cylindrical components. It is well matched for shop or field use where a rigid honing machine is not available. The flexible abrasive design allows the tool to self-center in the bore and follow minor irregularities without removing excessive material, which is useful during final finishing passes on precision bores.
Designed for use on aluminum, brass, bronze, and softer metal cylindrical bores up to 2.125 inches in maximum diameter. Suitable for use with a portable drill or drill press operating at or below 900 RPM.
Secure the shank in a standard drill chuck, ensuring the chuck is tightened firmly before operation. Always apply a honing oil or appropriate cutting fluid to the bore before and during use to extend abrasive life and improve surface finish. Do not exceed 900 RPM, and keep the tool moving in and out of the bore throughout the stroke to produce an even crosshatch pattern. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before beginning any honing operation.
