The BRUSH RESEARCH MFG. BC14M240AO is a flexible cylinder hone designed for deburring, surface finishing, and bore conditioning in small-diameter cylindrical bores. It uses aluminum oxide abrasive balls at 240 grit, a medium grade suited for controlled material removal and smooth surface generation. The hone reaches a maximum bore diameter of 0.55 inches (14 mm) with an abrasive length of 2.5 inches (64 mm) and an overall length of 8 inches. It is installed on a shank diameter of 0.19 inches and runs at up to 1000 RPM in a standard drill or honing machine. Machinists, engine rebuilders, and maintenance technicians use this tool for precise bore work on small components.
This hone is built for use on aluminum, brass, bronze, and other softer metals. Typical applications include cleaning up cylinder bores, valve guides, hydraulic cylinders, and small pump housings in light industrial, automotive, and mechanical maintenance settings. The flexible abrasive construction allows the tool to self-center in the bore and conform to minor surface irregularities, making it well suited for finishing passes rather than heavy stock removal. It is appropriate for both production shops and field repair situations where consistent bore surface finish is required.
Designed for use in small cylindrical bores on aluminum, brass, bronze, and softer metal workpieces with bore diameters up to 0.55 inches. Fits standard drill chucks accepting a 0.19-inch shank diameter.
This tool is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a handheld drill, drill press, or dedicated honing machine. Secure the 0.19-inch shank firmly in the chuck before operation and do not exceed 1000 RPM. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or honing oil to the bore during use to prevent abrasive loading and extend tool life. Ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured before beginning any honing operation.
