Product Description

The BRUSH RESEARCH MFG. BC12M24 is a flexible cylinder hone designed for fine surface finishing inside bored cylindrical workpieces. It uses silicon carbide abrasive balls on flexible stems to conform to the bore wall, producing a consistent crosshatch pattern that supports oil retention and sealing. The BC12M24 is rated for a maximum bore diameter of 0.47 inches and carries a 240 grit extra fine grade, making it well suited for final finishing passes rather than aggressive material removal. Overall length is 8 inches with a 0.168 inch shank diameter. Machinists, engine rebuilders, and maintenance technicians use this tool with a standard drill press or hand drill.

This hone is intended for use in small-bore cylindrical applications across a range of metalworking and light maintenance scenarios. Compatible materials include mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Typical applications include cylinder sleeves, valve guides, hydraulic bores, and small pneumatic cylinder bodies where a controlled surface finish is required. The extra fine 240 grit rating makes it appropriate for final conditioning work where dimensional accuracy must be preserved and surface roughness kept to a minimum.

Key Features

  • 240 grit extra fine silicon carbide abrasive for controlled final finishing
  • Maximum bore diameter of 0.47 inches suits small precision bores
  • Flexible stem design self-centers and conforms to the bore wall
  • Compatible with mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces
  • 8 inch overall length provides reach into deeper bores
  • 0.168 inch shank fits standard drill chucks for use with hand drills or drill presses

Compatibility

Designed for use on mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron bores with a maximum bore diameter of 0.47 inches. Suitable for any application requiring extra fine surface conditioning within that bore size range.

Installation Notes

This tool is installed into a standard drill chuck and operated at a maximum of 1200 RPM. Use a cutting fluid or honing oil appropriate for the workpiece material to extend abrasive life and improve surface finish quality. Secure the workpiece firmly before operation. Do not exceed the rated maximum RPM, as overdriving a flexible hone can damage the abrasive stems and produce an inconsistent finish.
