The BOWMALLOY BOW36780 is a Grade 9 steel hex lock nut with a 1/4-20 thread size and a Bowma-Guard cadmium waxed finish. Designed to resist loosening under vibration and dynamic loads, this nut features a prevailing-torque locking element that maintains clamp force without secondary locking hardware. The 0.248-inch height and 7/16-inch (0.4375-inch) width across flats are dimensioned for standard 7/16 open-end or box wrenches. Grade 9 classification indicates high proof load and tensile strength, making this nut appropriate for structural and mechanical fastening applications where standard Grade 5 or Grade 8 hardware is insufficient. Licensed trades and mechanical contractors specify this grade for heavy-duty assemblies.
This hex lock nut is suited for mechanical, structural, and industrial fastening applications where vibration resistance and high clamp load are required. Typical install scenarios include HVAC equipment mounting, electrical panel and enclosure assembly, plumbing equipment bases, and general industrial fabrication. The right-hand thread direction is standard for the vast majority of fastening applications. Package quantity is 100 units per order, making it practical for service vehicle stocking or job-site bulk use.
Designed as an OEM-style and aftermarket replacement hex lock nut for any application using a 1/4-20 inch-series threaded fastener requiring a Grade 9 prevailing-torque nut with a 7/16-inch hex profile.
Installation is performed by mechanical contractors, HVAC technicians, electricians, and plumbers as part of equipment mounting and structural assembly work. De-energize and lock out all electrical equipment before fastening hardware in proximity to live components, per NEC lockout/tagout requirements. Apply torque with a calibrated torque wrench to the fastener manufacturer's specification for the joint material and application - do not rely on feel alone for Grade 9 hardware. Inspect the Bowma-Guard finish for damage before installation; compromised coating may reduce corrosion performance in wet or chemically exposed environments.
