The BOSTON GEAR 34738 is an oil-impregnated bronze sleeve bearing designed for use in rotating shaft applications where continuous lubrication is not practical. With a plain bore measuring 0.503 inches inside diameter, an outside diameter of 0.69 inches, and an overall length of 0.625 inches, this bearing provides a self-lubricating, low-friction interface between a rotating shaft and its housing. The sintered bronze construction retains oil within its porous matrix, releasing it gradually under load and heat. It carries a maximum pressure-velocity rating of 50,000 psi, making it suitable for moderate-load, moderate-speed applications across HVAC equipment, motors, fans, and light industrial machinery.
This bearing is commonly installed in fractional-horsepower motors, blower assemblies, fan shafts, and similar rotating components found in residential and light commercial HVAC systems. It fits shafts with a nominal 0.5-inch diameter and is pressed into a housing bored to accept the 0.69-inch outside diameter. The oil-impregnated design eliminates the need for external grease fittings in many standard service scenarios, reducing maintenance intervals. Lubrication is rated to SAE 20 (ISO 68) and SAE 30 (ISO 100) oil standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sleeve bearing for fractional-horsepower motors, fan assemblies, and blower shafts requiring a 0.5-inch bore plain bearing with a 0.69-inch outside diameter housing fit.
Installation is typically performed by HVAC technicians or mechanical trades using a bearing press or arbor press to seat the bearing flush and square within the housing bore. Always de-energize and lock out the equipment before removing or installing shaft bearings. Avoid hammering directly on the bearing face, as this can distort the bore and compromise shaft fit. Verify shaft and housing dimensions prior to installation to ensure proper clearance tolerances.
