The BOSTON GEAR 34728 is an oil-impregnated bronze sleeve bearing designed for rotary and oscillating shaft applications in industrial and mechanical equipment. With a 0.503-inch inside diameter, a 0.628-inch outside diameter, and a 1-inch overall length, this plain-bore bearing provides a self-lubricating surface that reduces friction without requiring an external grease fitting. The sintered bronze construction retains oil within the bearing wall, releasing it under load and heat to maintain a consistent lubricating film. It is installed by maintenance technicians and millwrights working on motors, conveyors, fans, pumps, and light-duty machinery.
This bearing is suited for radial-load applications where low-speed to moderate-speed shaft support is needed. The plain bore accepts a 1/2-inch shaft and is intended for use in housings or pillow blocks sized for a 5/8-inch OD insert. Typical installations include electric motor end bells, small gearbox housings, conveyor rollers, and agricultural equipment. The maximum pressure-velocity rating of 50,000 psi-ft/min governs application selection and must not be exceeded in service.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sleeve bearing for housings requiring a 1/2-inch bore and 5/8-inch outer diameter insert in radial-load rotating equipment.
Installation is typically performed by maintenance technicians or millwrights. Before servicing any shaft assembly, de-energize and lock out the drive motor in accordance with OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Press the bearing into the housing bore using an arbor press and a proper driver sized to the OD to avoid distorting the bearing wall. Do not hammer directly on the bearing face, and verify shaft and housing dimensions before installation to ensure proper fit and function.
