The BOSTON GEAR 34720 is an oil impregnated bronze sleeve bearing designed to support rotating shafts in light- to medium-duty mechanical assemblies. With a 0.503 inch bore, 0.628 inch outside diameter, and 0.5 inch overall length, this plain bore bearing delivers self-lubricating performance through its porous bronze construction. The material absorbs and retains oil, releasing it continuously at the bearing surface during operation. Rated to a maximum pressure-velocity (PV) value of 50,000 psi, it handles demanding load-speed combinations without requiring external lubrication in most service intervals. Licensed HVAC techs, millwrights, and maintenance professionals install this type of bearing in motors, fans, pumps, and general rotating equipment.
This sleeve bearing suits residential and light commercial mechanical applications where a compact, self-lubricating plain bearing is required. Typical installations include small electric motor shafts, blower assemblies, and fan shaft support points. The 0.5 inch bore fits standard half-inch shaft diameters commonly found in HVAC blower motors and pump assemblies. Its compact 0.5 inch length fits tight axial spaces where larger flanged or housed bearings are not practical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sleeve bearing for rotating shaft applications requiring a 0.5 inch bore, 0.625 inch outside diameter, and 0.5 inch overall length plain bronze bearing.
Installation is typically performed by a qualified millwright, HVAC technician, or mechanical maintenance professional. Always de-energize and lock out the equipment before removing or installing bearings. Press-fit the bearing into the housing bore using an appropriate bearing press or driver sized to the outside diameter - do not strike the bearing face directly with a hammer. Verify shaft and housing tolerances are within manufacturer specifications before final assembly.
