The BOSTON GEAR 34644 is an oil-impregnated bronze sleeve bearing designed for plain-bore shaft support in rotating equipment applications. With an inside diameter of 0.377 inches, an outside diameter of 0.502 inches, and an overall length of 1 inch, this bushing delivers self-lubricating performance from its porous bronze construction. The oil-impregnated material releases lubricant under load and heat, reducing friction without requiring an external grease or oil supply during normal service. It is rated for a maximum pressure-velocity value of 50,000 psi, making it suitable for moderate-to-demanding load and speed conditions. HVAC technicians, millwrights, and mechanical equipment service professionals commonly install this type of bearing in fans, blowers, pumps, and small motors.
This sleeve bearing fits residential and light commercial rotating equipment where a compact, low-maintenance plain bearing is specified. Typical applications include fractional-horsepower motor shafts, fan blade spindles, pump impeller shafts, and conveyor idler assemblies. It conforms to SAE 20 (ISO 68) and SAE 30 (ISO 100) lubrication standards, which aligns it with a broad range of OEM-specified oil viscosity requirements. The plain bore style accepts a straight shaft without keyways or special features.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sleeve bearing for fractional-horsepower motors, fans, blowers, and pumps requiring a plain-bore bronze bushing with 3/8-inch nominal inside diameter and 1/2-inch nominal outside diameter.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed mechanic, HVAC technician, or qualified maintenance professional. Power down and lock out the equipment per OSHA lockout-tagout procedures before removing any shaft assembly. Press the bearing into the housing bore with a properly sized arbor or press to avoid distorting the bore; do not drive it in with a hammer directly on the bearing face. After installation, verify shaft end-play and confirm the bearing seats flush or to the specified depth before returning equipment to service.
