The BOSTON GEAR 34616 is an oil-impregnated bronze sleeve bearing designed for light-duty rotary and oscillating shaft applications. With a 5/16-inch (0.3140-inch) bore, 1/2-inch (0.5020-inch) outside diameter, and 3/8-inch overall length, this plain-bore bushing supports shaft alignment and reduces friction in low-speed, moderate-load assemblies. The sintered bronze construction is pre-saturated with lubricant, meaning no external oil fitting is required during normal service. It is sized for compact mechanical assemblies where space constraints limit the use of rolling-element bearings. HVAC blower shafts, small motor end bells, and similar light-mechanical components represent common installation environments for this bearing class.
This sleeve bearing suits residential and light commercial applications where a self-lubricating plain bearing is preferred over a ball or roller bearing. Typical install scenarios include replacement of worn bushings in fan blade hubs, small motor housings, linkage pivot points, and similar rotating or oscillating assemblies. The compact 3/8-inch length fits tight axial envelopes. Because the bronze matrix holds oil internally, the bearing performs well in locations that are difficult to reach for routine re-lubrication.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sleeve bearing for light-duty rotating and oscillating shaft assemblies requiring a 5/16-inch bore, 1/2-inch outside diameter, and 3/8-inch overall length plain bushing.
Press-fit installation into a properly sized housing bore is standard practice for sleeve bearings of this type. Power down and de-energize any motor or mechanical drive before removing the worn bushing or installing the replacement. Use an arbor press or appropriately sized driver to seat the bearing evenly and avoid cocking it in the bore. Do not over-press or strike the bearing face directly, as deformation of the bore will reduce shaft clearance and accelerate wear.
