The BOSHART UPVCFA-10 is a polypropylene hose adapter designed to connect polyethylene pipe to threaded pipe systems. It features a 1-inch female pipe thread (FPT) on one end and a 1-inch insert barb on the other, making it a reliable fitting for irrigation, water distribution, and similar fluid-handling applications. Polypropylene construction offers solid chemical resistance and durability in outdoor and underground installations. The fitting weighs 0.088 pounds and is sold individually. Licensed plumbers and irrigation contractors are the typical installers of this component in both residential and light commercial settings.
This adapter is suited for polyethylene pipe systems where a transition to a female-threaded connection is needed. Common applications include agricultural irrigation lines, residential lawn irrigation, and general water supply runs using poly pipe. The insert barb end accepts standard polyethylene tubing, while the FPT end threads onto male-threaded valves, manifolds, or fittings. Per manufacturer recommendations, proper clamping is required: for sizes 1/2 inch through 1 inch, use one clamp positioned directly over the barbs. For sizes over 1-1/4 inches, use one clamp over the barbs and one behind the barbs.
Designed for use with standard polyethylene pipe in irrigation and water distribution systems requiring a 1-inch FPT x 1-inch insert barb transition fitting.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or irrigation contractors following applicable IPC guidelines. Depressurize and drain the line before fitting installation. Apply thread sealant tape to the male threads before making the FPT connection and tighten to hand-tight plus no more than one to two turns with a wrench. Secure the insert barb end with stainless steel hose clamps positioned per the manufacturer clamping procedure to prevent pull-out under pressure.
