The BONEHAM P486IM is a press fit headless drill bushing designed to guide drill bits and cutting tools with precision in metalworking, machining, and fabrication operations. Built to Industry Code P, it features a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) inside diameter and a 3/4 inch body outside diameter. The inside diameter is held to a close tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0005 inches, ensuring consistent tool guidance and accurate hole placement. Constructed from steel, this bushing is intended for permanent installation in drill jigs and fixtures used by machinists and toolmakers in production or job-shop environments.
The P486IM is suited for use in press fit drill jig applications where a headless, flush-mounted bushing is required. Its 3/8 inch overall length makes it appropriate for thin jig plates and fixtures where a low-profile bushing is needed. The bushing is pressed directly into a prepared hole in the jig plate without a locking collar or head flange, making it a non-renewable, fixed installation. Typical users include machinists, tool and die makers, and production floor technicians working with steel or similar jig materials.
Designed as a permanent press fit replacement or new-installation drill bushing for standard jig plates and fixtures requiring an Industry Code P headless bushing with a 5/16 inch inside diameter and 3/4 inch outside diameter.
Installation is performed by pressing the bushing into a precision-bored hole in the jig plate using an arbor press or similar pressing equipment. The receiving hole in the jig plate must be machined to the appropriate interference fit tolerance to ensure the bushing is held securely without distortion. This is a non-renewable bushing and is not designed for removal and reuse once pressed in place. Confirm proper hole preparation before pressing to avoid damage to the bushing bore.
