The BMI USA 35542 is a malleable iron black pipe tee designed for joining threaded pipe runs in plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping systems. The tee configuration allows a branch line to be added at a 90-degree angle from the main run. With a run size of 2 inches and branch size of 1-1/4 inches on both outlets, this fitting accommodates common reducing configurations without additional bushings. The black finish indicates an uncoated iron surface suited for gas and non-potable applications. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the typical installers.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial piping applications where a threaded branch connection is required off a 2-inch main line. Common install scenarios include natural gas supply lines, propane distribution, and steam or compressed-air systems where malleable iron fittings are specified. The 2 x 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 inch reducing configuration makes it well suited for transitioning from a larger main to smaller branch lines without additional reducing fittings in line.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard NPT threaded pipe systems using 2-inch main run and 1-1/4-inch branch connections in malleable iron piping assemblies.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements for the intended service. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply a listed pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as malleable iron threads can crack under excessive torque.
