The BMI USA 35533 is a black malleable iron pipe tee designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping systems. With a run size of 2 inches and a branch size of 1-1/2 inches reducing to 1 inch, this reducing tee allows a directional branch takeoff from a main line while stepping down to a smaller diameter. Malleable iron construction provides the ductility and strength needed to handle the stresses of threaded connections and pressure fluctuations in working pipe systems. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
This tee is suited for residential and light commercial gas piping, water distribution, and general mechanical piping applications where black iron fittings are specified. The reducing configuration makes it practical in situations where a branch line runs at a smaller pipe size than the main. It is commonly installed in black iron gas supply systems, compressed air distribution, and industrial fluid lines where NPT-threaded fittings are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for standard NPT-threaded black iron pipe systems requiring a reducing tee configuration.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas piping or IPC requirements for plumbing systems. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack if excessive torque is applied.
