The BMI USA 35498 is a malleable iron black pipe tee designed for threaded piping systems in gas, air, and general plumbing distribution lines. This fitting connects three sections of pipe at a branch point, allowing flow to be split or combined within the run. The 2 x 2 x 1/2 inch configuration features two full-size 2-inch ports on the run and a 1/2-inch branch outlet. At 1.55 pounds, it is a solid, durable fitting suited for permanent installations where reliability under pressure is required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this type of fitting in both residential and light commercial applications.
This tee is used in threaded black iron piping systems common to natural gas supply lines, compressed air distribution, and fire suppression rough-in work. The black finish indicates an uncoated malleable iron fitting, which is the standard specification for gas service piping in residential and commercial construction. It is well suited for above-ground interior piping runs where a reducing branch connection is needed off a 2-inch main line.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting for use in standard NPT black iron piping systems, including natural gas, compressed air, and general fluid distribution applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) as required by the application. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service type to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack if improperly stressed.
