The BMI USA 35344 is a black malleable iron 90-degree pipe elbow designed for threaded pipe systems in plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping applications. The reducing elbow transitions from a 2-inch run to a 1/2-inch branch at a 90-degree angle, making it a practical fitting for directional changes that also reduce pipe size in a single connection. Malleable iron construction provides the strength and ductility needed to handle the mechanical stress common in threaded pipe assemblies. At 0.95 pounds, the fitting is robust without being unwieldy during installation.
This elbow is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where black iron threaded fittings are standard. Common applications include natural gas supply lines, steam heating systems, compressed air distribution, and general mechanical piping. The black finish is typical for gas piping installations where galvanized fittings are not required. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for black iron threaded pipe systems using standard NPT connections in plumbing and mechanical piping applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing and mechanical codes, including the IPC and IFGC where applicable. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly, and tighten fittings to a secure connection using pipe wrenches without over-torquing malleable iron threads. Inspect all joints for leaks after restoring system pressure.
