The BMI USA 35180 is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce pipe thread sizes in plumbing, HVAC, and general piping systems. It steps down from a 1.5-inch female thread to a 0.25-inch male thread, allowing techs to connect different pipe diameters within the same run. The hexagonal body gives a wrench flat for secure tightening without slipping. The black iron finish is standard for gas and air piping applications. Licensed plumbers and HVAC mechanics are the primary installers of this fitting.
This hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where a threaded reduction is needed inline. Common applications include natural gas supply lines, compressed air distribution, and hydronic heating systems. The 1.5-inch to 0.25-inch reduction is a standard size pairing used when transitioning from a larger main line to a smaller branch or instrument connection.
Designed as a standard NPT threaded hex bushing for use in residential and commercial gas, air, and fluid piping systems requiring a 1.5-inch to 0.25-inch threaded reduction.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or HVAC technicians in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas piping. Shut off and depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten malleable iron fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque.
