The BMI USA 35159 is a malleable iron hex pipe bushing designed to reduce a 4-inch female threaded connection down to a 1.5-inch male threaded fitting. This type of bushing — commonly called a HEXI or hex bushing — features a hex body profile that allows a wrench to apply proper torque during installation. It is used in plumbing, industrial piping, and mechanical systems where pipe size transitions are needed within a threaded iron pipe system. At 2.57 pounds, the malleable iron construction provides strength and durability suitable for demanding trade applications. The black finish indicates standard black malleable iron, appropriate for non-potable and gas-rated piping systems where applicable.
This bushing is suited for use in residential and commercial plumbing systems, gas distribution piping, HVAC-related piping runs, and industrial fluid handling applications. It is installed wherever a threaded iron pipe run requires stepping down from a 4-inch line to a 1.5-inch branch or connection point. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting in new construction and retrofit projects.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit bushing for standard NPT threaded iron pipe systems requiring a 4-inch to 1.5-inch reduction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing and mechanical codes, including IPC and IFGC requirements where gas service is involved. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before engagement. Use a pipe wrench on the hex body to achieve a secure, leak-free connection without over-stressing the fitting.
