The BMI USA 35033 is a black malleable iron reducing coupling designed for joining threaded pipe of two different sizes in low-pressure piping systems. The fitting transitions from a 1-1/4 inch female thread to a 1/2 inch female thread, making it suitable for branch connections and pipe size reductions in gas, air, and water distribution lines. Its black finish is standard for gas piping applications. At 0.49 pounds, the 35033 is a compact, durable fitting installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians working on threaded iron pipe systems.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping installations where a threaded pipe run must step down from 1-1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. Common applications include natural gas and propane distribution lines, compressed air systems, and general industrial piping. The black finish and malleable iron construction meet standard requirements for gas piping fittings in accordance with applicable plumbing and fuel gas codes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded malleable iron pipe systems using 1-1/4 inch and 1/2 inch NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable local plumbing and fuel gas codes, including IFGC requirements where natural gas or propane is involved. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all threaded connections. Do not over-tighten threaded fittings, as malleable iron can crack under excessive torque.
