The BMI USA 20036 is an extra heavy black malleable iron pipe coupling designed for joining threaded pipe sections in demanding piping systems. Built from extra heavy malleable iron with a black finish, this coupling delivers added wall thickness and strength compared to standard fittings, making it well suited for high-pressure or mechanical-stress applications. The 1-1/2 inch by 1 inch reducing configuration allows connection between two different pipe sizes within the same run. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this fitting in commercial and industrial systems where a standard-weight coupling is not appropriate.
This coupling sees use in black iron gas piping, steam systems, compressed air lines, and general industrial plumbing where threaded malleable iron fittings are specified. The extra heavy wall designation makes it a common choice where system pressure ratings or code requirements call for upgraded fitting strength. It is installed by threading directly onto male-threaded pipe ends and is compatible with standard NPT thread patterns typical of iron pipe systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for threaded black iron pipe systems using NPT connections in residential, commercial, or industrial applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable plumbing and mechanical codes, including IPC and IFGC requirements where relevant. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before making up the joint, and tighten to proper engagement using pipe wrenches. Do not over-torque, as this can crack the fitting body.
