The BMI USA 20031 is an extra heavy black malleable iron pipe coupling designed to join two sections of threaded pipe in demanding piping systems. Rated for extra heavy service, this 1-1/4 inch by 1 inch reducing coupling connects pipes of two different diameters with a secure threaded fit. The black finish results from an oil-dip coating process standard in malleable iron fittings, providing a baseline level of corrosion resistance suitable for many dry and low-moisture environments. At 1.16 pounds, the fitting reflects the added wall thickness characteristic of extra heavy classifications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers.
This coupling is suited for use in residential and light commercial gas piping, steam, air, and water distribution systems where extra heavy fittings are specified. The reducing profile accommodates transitions from 1-1/4 inch pipe down to 1 inch pipe, a common reduction encountered in branch line configurations and equipment connections. It is appropriate for applications requiring the added strength and pressure tolerance of extra heavy malleable iron construction over standard weight fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style extra heavy malleable iron replacement coupling compatible with standard NPT-threaded pipe systems in plumbing, gas distribution, steam, and compressed air applications where a 1-1/4 inch to 1 inch reducing fitting is required.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and the International Fuel Gas Code or International Plumbing Code as appropriate. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before disassembling any existing fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service type to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-torque the fitting; tighten to hand-tight plus the number of turns specified by applicable code for the pipe size and service type.
