The BMI USA 20020 is an extra heavy malleable iron pipe coupling finished in black, designed for joining or reducing threaded pipe connections in demanding piping systems. Built from extra heavy (XH) malleable iron, this coupling offers greater wall thickness and pressure tolerance than standard fittings, making it appropriate for industrial, commercial, and heavy-duty plumbing or gas piping applications. The 1/2 x 1/4 inch reducing configuration allows techs to connect a 1/2 inch line down to a 1/4 inch line within the same run. At 0.28 pounds, it is a compact, solid fitting suited for tight installations.
This coupling is used in threaded black iron piping systems commonly found in commercial gas distribution, steam, and compressed air lines. The extra heavy wall rating supports higher-pressure service conditions compared to standard malleable iron fittings. Plumbers, pipefitters, and gas service technicians install this type of fitting wherever a reducing connection is needed between two threaded pipe segments of different diameters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install fitting for threaded black iron pipe systems using standard NPT connections in plumbing, gas, or industrial piping applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable local codes and IFGC requirements for gas piping or IPC requirements for plumbing systems. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded fittings, as malleable iron can crack under excessive torque.
