The BMI 47038 is a wrot copper press-fit reducing coupling designed to join pipes of two different diameters without soldering. It transitions from a 1-1/2 inch connection to a 1/2 inch connection using a press-fit mechanism, eliminating the need for open flame during installation. Wrot copper construction delivers reliable corrosion resistance and long service life in both hot and cold water systems. This fitting is well suited for plumbing and mechanical contractors working in environments where torch-free connections are required or preferred.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing applications where a reduction in line size is needed within a copper piping system. The press-fit design is commonly used in retrofit and new construction work, particularly in occupied buildings or areas with fire restrictions where soldering is not practical. It installs quickly with a standard press tool, making it a time-efficient choice for service calls and rough-in work alike.
Designed as an OEM-style press-fit replacement fitting for use in standard copper piping systems requiring a 1-1/2 inch to 1/2 inch diameter reduction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber familiar with press-fit copper systems. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before fitting installation. Use a calibrated press tool with the correct jaw size for each end of the fitting — 1-1/2 inch and 1/2 inch jaws are required. Verify the pipe ends are clean, deburred, and fully inserted to the depth mark before pressing.
