The BK MUELLER 521-985HN is a threaded malleable iron pipe bushing with a black finish, sized at 2 x 1 inches and rated Class 150. This hex bushing reduces a 2-inch female threaded fitting down to a 1-inch male threaded connection, making it a standard component in gas and liquid piping assemblies. The malleable iron construction provides the ductility needed to withstand mechanical stress and vibration in piping systems, while the black finish offers corrosion resistance suitable for interior installations. With a pressure rating of 300 psi, it handles the demands of most commercial and residential plumbing and gas distribution lines. Plumbers and pipefitters install this bushing where a reduction between threaded pipe sizes is required.
This bushing is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where threaded iron pipe is the standard connection method. Common applications include natural gas distribution, compressed air lines, and water supply piping that uses malleable iron fittings throughout. The Class 150 rating and 300 psi pressure capacity make it appropriate for a wide range of service conditions. It is designed to thread directly into standard NPT-threaded fittings, valves, and pipe nipples using conventional pipe wrenches and thread sealant or PTFE tape.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for standard NPT threaded malleable iron piping systems in residential and commercial applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements for the intended service. Shut off all gas or fluid supply and relieve system pressure before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly and tighten with a pipe wrench to achieve a leak-free connection. Do not over-tighten, as this can crack fittings or damage threads.
