The BK MUELLER 521-386HN is a black malleable iron reducing coupling rated for Class 150 service. It steps down from a 2-inch female iron pipe (FIP) thread to a 1.25-inch FIP thread, making it a standard fitting for reducing pipe diameter in threaded piping systems. Constructed from malleable iron with a black finish, it carries a pressure rating of 300 psi, suitable for use with both liquid and gas media. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in commercial and residential piping assemblies where a threaded diameter reduction is required without the use of a bushing.
This reducing coupling is used in threaded black iron pipe systems for gas distribution, steam, air, and water applications. The Class 150 rating and 300 psi pressure capacity make it appropriate for low-pressure gas lines and general-purpose plumbing and mechanical piping runs. It is commonly found in commercial mechanical rooms, residential gas supply lines, and industrial compressed-air distribution systems where a reliable, permanent threaded reduction is needed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Class 150 threaded malleable iron piping systems using standard FIP connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the IPC or IFGC. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-torque threaded malleable iron fittings, as cracking can occur.
