The BK MUELLER 510-174 is a Class 150 malleable iron 90-degree reducing elbow designed for threaded pipe assemblies in gas, liquid, and steam distribution systems. It transitions from a 1-1/2 inch inlet to a 3/4 inch outlet, making it a practical solution where pipe sizing changes direction simultaneously. The galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance for exposed or semi-exposed installations. Rated at 300 psi for liquid and gas service and 150 psi for steam, this fitting handles the pressure demands of commercial and residential plumbing and gas piping applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers.
This fitting is suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where a 90-degree change in direction and a reduction in pipe size are required in a single fitting. Common applications include gas distribution lines, water supply piping, and low-pressure steam systems. The threaded end connections accept standard NPT pipe threads, allowing straightforward integration into existing threaded piping runs without special tooling beyond standard pipe wrenches and thread sealant.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Class 150 threaded malleable iron piping systems using standard NPT pipe threads in 1-1/2 inch to 3/4 inch configurations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Plumbing Code, and the International Fuel Gas Code where gas service is involved. Shut off and depressurize the affected line before disassembly or installation. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads before assembly, and tighten with a pipe wrench to achieve a leak-free joint without overtightening, which can crack fittings. Pressure-test the completed assembly before returning the system to service.
