The BK 521-952HC is a black malleable iron hex bushing designed to reduce a 1-inch male NPT pipe connection down to a 3/8-inch female NPT thread. This type of bushing is a standard pipe fitting used to transition between two different pipe sizes within a threaded black iron piping system. It is manufactured from malleable iron conforming to ANSI/ASTM A-197 and carries threads cut to ANSI B1.20.1 standards. The hexagonal body allows a wrench to be seated squarely for proper torque during installation. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians encounter this fitting in gas distribution, compressed air, and hydronic heating applications.
The 521-952HC is suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where a threaded black iron reducing bushing is required. The 1-inch side is the male thread and the 3/8-inch side is the female thread, which is the standard hex bushing orientation. Dimensional compliance with ANSI/ASME B16.14, B16.39, and B1.15.3 confirms this fitting integrates reliably with other standard black iron fittings. Each unit is individually flag tagged for identification and has the Mueller logo cast into the body. The fitting is 100 percent inspected and quality tested prior to shipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard 1-inch to 3/8-inch threaded black iron piping systems using NPT connections.
This fitting is typically installed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters working on gas or hydronic systems. Shut off and depressurize the line before threading any fitting. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all male threads before assembly. Follow applicable codes, including IFGC and IPC, for gas and water piping installations respectively.
