The BK 403-240 is a Schedule 80 PVC threaded nipple designed for the transport of water and other liquids in pressurized piping systems. Sized at 0.5 inches nominal diameter and 24 inches in length, this nipple conforms to IPS (iron pipe size) dimensions and is threaded to NPT (National Pipe Thread) standards on both ends. It meets ASTM D1785 specifications for Schedule 80 PVC pressure-rated pipe. The heavier wall thickness of Schedule 80 construction provides greater pressure capacity and impact resistance compared to Schedule 40. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this type of fitting.
This nipple is suited for a wide variety of residential and commercial plumbing, irrigation, and industrial fluid-handling applications where PVC is an approved material. It is appropriate for cold and ambient-temperature water service lines, chemical transfer systems where PVC is chemically compatible, and general low-to-moderate pressure liquid transport. The NPT threading allows direct connection to standard pipe fittings, valves, and other threaded components throughout a piping system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for standard 0.5 inch NPT threaded plumbing and piping assemblies where Schedule 80 PVC material is specified.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC requirements. Apply pipe thread compound or PTFE sealing tape to the threaded portions before assembly to ensure a leak-free joint. Do not overtighten PVC threaded fittings, as the material is subject to cracking under excessive torque. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before cutting into or modifying any existing piping system.
