The BK 403-180 is a Schedule 80 PVC threaded nipple designed for the transport of water and other compatible liquids in piping systems. Measuring 1/2 inch in diameter and 18 inches in length, this nipple is manufactured to IPS (iron pipe size) dimensions and threaded to NPT (National Pipe Thread) standards. It meets ASTM D1785 specifications, making it a reliable choice for pressure-rated PVC piping assemblies. A pipe thread compound or sealing tape should be applied to the threaded portion prior to installation. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in both new construction and retrofit applications.
This nipple is suited for a wide range of residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation, and industrial fluid-handling applications where Schedule 80 PVC material is specified. Its heavier wall thickness compared to Schedule 40 makes it appropriate for higher-pressure service conditions. It is commonly used to extend or connect runs in threaded PVC piping systems carrying water or non-reactive liquids.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for threaded Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using 1/2 inch NPT connections.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning work. Apply pipe thread compound or PTFE sealing tape to the male threads before making up the joint; do not over-tighten PVC threaded connections, as over-torquing can crack the fitting. Follow applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements for pressure ratings and approved materials.
