The BK 403-040 is a Schedule 80 PVC threaded nipple designed for the transport of water and other compatible liquids in pressurized piping systems. Measuring 1/2 inch in diameter and 4 inches in length, this nipple is manufactured to IPS (iron pipe size) dimensions and threaded to NPT (National Pipe Thread) standards. It meets ASTM D1785 specifications, confirming dimensional accuracy and material integrity. The heavier wall thickness of Schedule 80 construction provides greater pressure handling capability compared to Schedule 40, making it appropriate for more demanding installations. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in both new construction and retrofit applications.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation, industrial fluid transfer, and chemical handling systems where PVC material is compatible with the fluid being conveyed. Its NPT threading allows direct connection to standard pipe fittings, valves, and manifolds. Pipe thread compound or sealing tape must be applied to the threaded portion prior to assembly to ensure a leak-free joint. The 1/2-inch size fits commonly used supply and distribution line configurations across a wide range of piping layouts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using 1/2-inch NPT-threaded connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Always depressurize and drain the piping system before removing or installing threaded nipples. Apply pipe thread compound or PTFE sealing tape to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten PVC fittings, as excessive torque can crack the fitting or distort the thread seal.
