The BARE COPPER bare8solsdmr is a solid, soft-drawn bare copper conductor rated at 8 AWG, supplied in a 2500-foot coil cut to length. Bare copper wire in this configuration carries no insulation or jacket, making it the standard choice for grounding electrodes, bonding conductors, and equipotential bonding applications. The solid stranding provides low resistance and reliable continuity across long runs. With an outer diameter of 0.1285 inches and a linear weight of 50 pounds per thousand feet, this conductor is sized for residential and light commercial grounding systems. Licensed electricians and low-voltage installers work with this product regularly in panel grounding, service entrance bonding, and pool or spa equipotential grid installations.
This conductor is used wherever a bare copper grounding or bonding wire is required by the National Electrical Code. Typical applications include grounding electrode conductors run from a service panel to a ground rod or water pipe electrode, equipment bonding jumpers, lightning protection system grounding, and pool and spa equipotential bonding grids as required under NEC Article 680. The soft-drawn temper keeps the wire flexible enough for field bending and pulling through conduit or direct burial without kinking. It is also used in telecommunications and data facilities for main ground buses and telecommunications grounding infrastructure.
Designed as a standard bare copper grounding and bonding conductor for use in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems wherever 8 AWG bare copper is specified.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the applicable edition of the National Electrical Code and local amendments. De-energize all circuits and verify zero voltage with a meter before terminating any grounding conductor at a panel or equipment enclosure. Use listed mechanical connectors, compression lugs, or exothermic welds rated for bare copper at the sizes being joined — do not use connectors rated only for insulated wire. For direct burial or concrete-encased applications, verify that the connector and any conduit materials are rated for the installation environment.
