The BALAX 54625-006 is a high speed steel cleanout tap ground to M11x1.50 metric coarse thread specifications. It carries a nitride oxide finish that increases surface hardness and reduces friction during threading operations. The tap features a modified bottoming chamfer, making it well-suited for threading into blind holes where full thread depth close to the bottom of the bore is required. With 4 flutes and a 0.95-inch thread length, it provides clean chip evacuation and consistent thread form in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This is a production-grade hand or machine tap used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool and die professionals.
The 54625-006 is designed for metric coarse threading applications in general manufacturing, maintenance and repair operations, and production machining environments. It is appropriate for use in materials typical of high speed steel tooling capability, including mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar metals. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly useful when a standard taper or plug tap has already started the thread and a cleanout pass to the bottom of the hole is needed. It fits standard tap wrenches and tapping heads accepting a 0.323-inch shank diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for metric coarse M11x1.50 threading applications. Compatible with standard tap wrenches and tapping heads that accept a 0.323-inch round shank with a 0.242-inch square drive.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping operations and proper cutting fluid selection. Secure the workpiece fully before engaging the tap to prevent movement that could break the tool or damage the thread. Always use an appropriate cutting or tapping fluid matched to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if cutting edges are degraded.
