The BALAX 30072-000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of metals and alloys. Built from M42 powdered metal high-speed steel, it delivers the toughness needed for production tapping while maintaining a sharp cutting edge across many materials. The 10-32 UNF thread profile, plug chamfer, and H2 thread limit make this tap well suited for precision fastener applications where consistent thread form and fit are critical. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for use with cutting fluids on softer materials. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tap.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in light-duty to medium-duty production environments. It is compatible with a range of workpiece materials including low-carbon steel, 300 series stainless steel, wrought aluminum alloy, die cast aluminum, die cast zinc, magnesium, copper, brass, and bronze castings. The 3B class of fit suits standard precision fastener assemblies. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional tapping operations on drill press, CNC, or tapping arm setups.
Designed for through-hole threading in low-carbon steel, 300 stainless steel, wrought aluminum alloy, die cast aluminum, die cast zinc, magnesium, copper, brass, and bronze castings. Produces 10-32 UNF 3B class threads. Part of the BALAX BX100 series.
Install in a rigid tapping chuck, floating tap holder, or CNC rigid tapping spindle to minimize tap breakage and maintain thread accuracy. Power down or lock out the machine before changing taps or clearing chips. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material - dry tapping is not recommended for stainless steel or harder alloys. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and manufacturer feed rate recommendations for the tap diameter and material combination.
