The BALAX 30046-000 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from M42 grade powdered metal high-speed steel (HSS), it delivers consistent thread quality and extended tool life compared to conventional HSS taps. The plug chamfer style provides a gradual lead-in for through-hole tapping operations. With a 2.0-inch overall length and a thread length of 31/64 inches, this tap is sized for standard production and repair tapping in machine or hand-tap applications. A bright, uncoated finish is standard. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals install this tap in CNC machines, drill presses, and tapping arms.
The BALAX 30046-000 is suited for through-hole tapping in both production and maintenance environments. It is rated for use in aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, copper, magnesium, stainless steel, wrought aluminum alloy, and zinc. The right-hand thread direction and H6 thread limit make it a reliable choice for standard 6-32 UNC fastener applications in light manufacturing, electronics assembly, and general fabrication. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or manual lubrication should be applied at the cutting zone during use.
Designed for cutting 6-32 UNC threads with an H6 thread limit in aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, copper, magnesium, stainless steel, wrought aluminum alloy, and zinc workpieces. Suitable for through-hole tapping operations on standard tapping equipment.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, drill press, or tapping arm. Always secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is properly aligned to the pilot hole before engagement. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace at first signs of thread-form degradation.
