The BALAX 30002-000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in small-diameter fastener applications. Built from M42 powdered metal high-speed steel, it delivers consistent cutting performance and edge retention in production and repair environments. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, reducing the torque required to start the cut. With a 2-56 UNC thread form, 2 flutes, and an H2 thread limit, this tap produces 2B-class threads with reliable dimensional control. It is right-hand cut, uncoated, and carries no coolant-through capability. Shank diameter is 0.141 inches and overall length is 1.75 inches with a thread length of 0.4375 inches.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in light-gauge components common to electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation work. The 2-56 UNC size is typical in small-device assembly, panel work, and control enclosures. It performs in a range of workpiece materials including low-carbon steel, 300 series stainless steel, wrought and die cast aluminum, die cast zinc, magnesium, copper, brass, and bronze castings. The BX100 series is intended for both production tapping and field maintenance where consistent thread quality in small fastener sizes is required.
Designed for through-hole threading of 2-56 UNC threads in low-carbon steel, 300 stainless steel, wrought aluminum alloy, die cast aluminum, die cast zinc, magnesium, copper, brass, and bronze castings. Suitable for use in standard tap holders and machine tapping setups that accept the 0.141-inch shank diameter of the BX100 series.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists, tool and die technicians, or maintenance professionals using hand tap wrenches, T-handle wrenches, or machine tapping attachments. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before beginning the cut. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. For machine tapping, use a tapping attachment with torque limiting or floating capability to reduce the risk of tap breakage at this small diameter.
