The BALAX 19267-000 is a thread forming tap designed for M16x2.00 metric coarse threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to evacuate. This tap is built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and carries a 4H class of fit with a D7 thread limit. It features a bottoming chamfer with 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 3.5938 inches with a 1-inch thread length, making it suited for moderate-depth blind hole work in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This tap is used in production and maintenance machining environments where metric blind hole threading is required. The bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate as a finishing tap following a plug or taper tap in deeper blind holes, or as the primary tap when full thread depth near the hole bottom is needed. The BXMB series from BALAX is targeted at blind hole thread forming in materials that respond well to cold-forming, including low-carbon steel, aluminum, and similar ductile metals. Installation is typically performed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using tapping machines, CNC equipment, or hand tapping setups.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in M16x2.00 metric coarse applications where a 4H class of fit is required. Compatible with standard tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.4800-inch shank diameter and a 0.3600-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require higher torque than cutting taps and should be used with appropriate tapping lubricant or cutting fluid suited to the workpiece material. Ensure the pilot hole diameter is sized correctly for thread forming, as it differs from drilling specifications used with cutting taps. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping and verify spindle alignment to avoid tap breakage. Always follow shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines when operating tapping equipment.
