The BALAX 19154-000 is a thread forming tap designed for M14x2.00 metric coarse applications with a 6H class of fit. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form threads by displacing material rather than removing chips, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish. This tap features a bottoming chamfer with 2.5 chamfered threads, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Constructed from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it is a right-hand, single-pass tool used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals in metal fabrication and industrial repair environments.
This tap is built for blind hole threading in ductile and malleable metals where chip evacuation is a concern and thread strength is a priority. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to within a few pitches of the hole bottom, which is critical in applications with limited thread engagement depth. The BXMB series from BALAX is intended for use in controlled production and maintenance operations where consistent thread quality is required across repeated cycles.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in ductile and malleable ferrous and non-ferrous metals that support cold-forming operations. Verify workpiece material suitability before use, as thread forming taps are not suited for brittle materials such as cast iron or hardened steel.
Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size larger than that used for cut taps - consult a thread forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before drilling. Apply a suitable thread forming lubricant or cutting oil throughout the operation to reduce torque and extend tap life. Use a calibrated torque driver or tapping head when possible to avoid overloading the tap in harder materials. Always secure the workpiece and ensure proper alignment before beginning the tapping cycle.
