The BALAX 18751-01T is a thread forming tap designed for M10x1.50 metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form the thread profile by displacing material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that reduces friction and extends tool life in production environments. With a bottoming chamfer of 2.5 threads, it reaches close to the bottom of blind holes where standard plug or taper taps cannot. It is sized for a 6H class of fit and carries a D11 thread limit designation. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in manual or CNC tapping operations on ductile ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The 18751-01T is suited for blind hole threading in metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) environments. The bottoming chamfer makes it the final tap in a two-tap sequence when full thread depth to the bottom of a blind hole is required. The 1-oil-groove design aids lubricant delivery to the forming zone. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional metric fastener applications. This tap is appropriate for shop floor use wherever M10x1.50 metric threads must be formed cleanly and consistently in blind bores.
Designed for M10x1.50 metric coarse blind hole threading operations in ductile metals where chipless thread forming is appropriate. Part of the BALAX BXMB series of metric bottoming thread forming taps.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill - use the correct drill diameter specified for M10x1.50 form tapping, as it differs from a standard cut-tap drill size. Apply a suitable tapping lubricant or cutting fluid rated for thread forming before and during the operation. Power down or disengage the machine spindle and secure the workpiece before changing or seating the tap. For CNC tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are set for form tapping parameters, as overloading a forming tap in hard or incompatible materials can result in tap failure.
