The BALAX 18419-010 is a thread forming extension tap designed for cutting metric coarse internal threads in ductile and malleable materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap operates on a cold-forming principle, displacing material rather than cutting chips, which results in stronger threads and eliminates chip-clearing concerns in blind-hole applications. The D9 thread limit and 6H class of fit make it suitable for standard metric thread tolerances. The extended 6-inch overall length allows access to recessed, deep, or obstructed hole locations where standard-length taps cannot reach. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working on metric-threaded assemblies are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is applied in production and maintenance machining environments where M6x1 metric coarse threads are required in materials such as aluminum, brass, copper, and low-carbon steel. The bottoming chamfer style allows threading to the bottom of blind holes, making it well suited for close-tolerance fixture work, jig plates, and machine component repair. The BXEXT series extension design provides the reach needed for deep-set bores or confined workpiece geometries without requiring special tooling setups.
Designed for tapping M6x1 metric coarse threads in ductile materials; compatible with standard tap holders and extension tap drivers accepting a 0.255-inch shank diameter with a 0.191-inch square drive.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with thread forming operations. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before engagement. Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication appropriate to the workpiece material; consult material-specific tapping fluid guidelines before use. Do not apply this tap to brittle materials such as cast iron or hardened steel, as thread forming requires material ductility to function correctly.
