The BALAX 18369-000 is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal metric threads without cutting. Rather than removing material, it cold-forms the thread profile, resulting in stronger threads with no chips to clear. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. It carries an M6x1.00 metric coarse thread specification with a 6H class of fit and a D9 thread limit. The plug chamfer style makes it suitable for through-hole threading applications. This tap is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working in ferrous and non-ferrous metals that are appropriate for cold-forming operations.
The 18369-000 is intended for through-hole threading in materials that are ductile enough to accept cold-form tapping, including mild steel, aluminum, and similar metals. The plug chamfer with four chamfered threads allows progressive thread engagement from the start of the hole. It belongs to BALAX series BXMP and is suited for use on manual tapping equipment or CNC machine tools with rigid or floating tap holders. A single oil groove aids lubrication during the forming process.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling selection for through-hole thread forming applications requiring M6x1.00 metric coarse threads at a 6H class of fit.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill size - consult a forming tap drill chart for the correct diameter before drilling. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to reduce forming torque and extend tap life. This tap should be installed in a rigid or floating tap holder on a drill press, lathe, or CNC machining center; hand tapping is possible but requires care to maintain axial alignment. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning the tapping cycle.
